Dear Parents,
Please help us make the first day of Kindergarten go smoothly and be a positive experience by following these guidelines:
1.) Be positive in conversations about preparations for the first day.
2.) Label all supplies and leave them in the classroom. Be sure to explain to your child that these are the supplies they will use at school. Sometimes children think that they are supposed to take them back home.
3.) Occasionally there will be a few tears. Please give your child a reassuring hug and kiss and then leave. Don’t wait outside the room and peek in to see if everything is okay. If your child sees you it sometimes makes things worse. If we have any concerns we will call you.
4.) Be sure to tell the teacher how your child will go home on the first day as well as other school days.
5.) Please leave all toys and cuddlies at home.
Thank you in advance for helping us start off the year on the right foot. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
The Kindergarten Team

Helpful Hints
Absents/Tardies- School begins at 7:45. Students will be marked tardy that arrive after the 7:45 a.m. bell. If you bring your child late, please sign him/her in at the office. Arrival after 10:00 is considered absent for the day. Please make sure that the office has all important numbers that you can be reached in case of illness. If your child is ill, please allow for recovery at home. Upon your child’s return send a note within two days explaining the absence.
Campus Visit- It is mandatory that all visitors check in at the office with a valid I.D. This is an important security measure.
Lunch- If you are visiting for lunch it is best to meet by the double doors leading into the cafeteria. Please wait two weeks to join students for lunch so they can be familiar with the routine. Mark all bags and lunch boxes with your child’s name. Please send an envelope labeled with your child's name, my name, amount of money and lunch account number (which you will receive at Back to School Night). At any time, you may go to the cafeteria to add any amount of money to your child's account. Checks will not be accepted. You may also set up an account on www.mylunchmoney.com once you have your child's ID number.
Snacks- You are welcome to send in a healthy snack for your child to enjoy in the morning. Please label your child’s snack every day at home.
Labeling- Label everything that comes to school (backpacks, coats, lunch boxes, etc.) with a permanent marker.
Shoes- It is important that you send your child in appropriate foot wear. We will be active daily, therefore, closed-toed shoes for running and playing are important in reducing accidents.
Information- Information will be sent home in your child’s folder. If you have notes for me, please send them in the folder as well. I will check the folders every morning. Your child’s Kudos Sheet is to remain stapled in the folder. Please initial the Kudos Sheet and empty the folder on a daily basis.
Conferences- Parent –Teacher conferences occur in the Fall and, if necessary, in the Spring. More information will follow as the date approaches. If you have any concerns feel free to call, send in a note, or email me.
Volunteering-There are many opportunities to volunteer at Kiker. Join the Kiker Yahoo! Group to find out more information.
Dismissal- The dismissal area is in the front of the building under the east covered walkway. Please make sure that I see you picking up your child. Each child will have to give me a high five or hug before being dismissed.
